Dr. Paul Hurtado

Dr. Paul Hurtado is an Arizona Native. He was raised on a cattle ranch near Willcox Arizona in the Dos Cabezas Mountains. His early training in the cattle industry, spurred his love of Veterinary Medicine. He attended the University of Arizona and graduated, with Honors, in 1978 with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Health Science. He then attended Colorado State University and received his Veterinary Medical Degree in 1982.

His first job was at an Emergency Clinic in the heart of downtown Denver. There he was immediately indoctrinated into the fast pace world of quick decision making with pet’s lives riding on the outcome. He worked in this high pressure environment for 18 months and then moved to Prescott Arizona in 1984. In Prescott he worked at Mile High Animal Hospital where he learned the ins and outs of general veterinary practice. Then, in 1985 he moved back to Tucson and purchased Rosemont Pet Clinic. This was important to Dr. Hurtado because this is where he was first employed as a Veterinary Assistant while attending the University of Arizona. His association with Dr. John Hinds, his mentor and friend had led him full circle, back to the town he now calls home.

For ten years Dr. Hurtado worked to hone his skills and make Rosemont Pet Clinic a thriving practice. In 1995 Dr. Hurtado began to make plans for expansion. After three years of hard work and determination his dreams became a reality with the opening of Monument East Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Hurtado has the privilege of serving Tucson Residents from his state of the art east side location, which offers flexibility and convenience for the health of your pets.

Dr. Hurtado has been involved with the Southern Arizona Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) since 1999 and served as president of the association for ten of those years. The focus of SAVMA is to provide continuing education to the Veterinarians of Southern Arizona and their staffs. Dr. Hurtado believes that the best investment is an investment in education and he places a high value on the ability to stay current in the field as well as network with local veterinarians and specialists to give your pet the best chance to heal.

Dr. Hurtado has a wonderful wife and four beautiful children. He has a musical household, enjoys song writing, singing and is an excellent guitarist. He released his first cd "Tucson Night" in 2011. He likes to stay in good shape and devotes several days a week to the maintenance of his physical condition. He still enjoys horseback riding and satisfies his need for large animal medicine by helping on the family ranch in Dos Cabezas. See the MUSIC heading on the website to hear a sample of Dr. Hurtado's music.

Dr. Hurtado has been practicing veterinary medicine in Arizona since 1983. During this time he has come to appreciate the bond we have with our pets. He feels that there is no other relationship that comes close to capturing this essence of unconditional love. Because this bond is so special he enjoys the science but mostly the “art” or Veterinary Medicine and the compassion that is involved in treating our furry friends. He works very hard and is committed to improving the Veterinary community as well as watching the “art” of Veterinary Medicine grow. He believes in shared decision making with his clients, in order to accomplish the goal of providing pets with a comfortable experience and the owners with peace of mind.

SUPPORT STAFF

Monument East Veterinary Hospital has developed a team of highly trained support staff, which includes veterinary technicians, assistants and receptionists to maintain efficient quality patient/client care 6 days a week.

Our staff has many years of experience in the veterinary field and their dedication to the profession is reflected in the compassionate care they give to each and every patient and pet owner.

Continuing education is a top priority for our entire staff. We conduct in-house lectures for our support staff and we also host seminars for members of the veterinary community. Employees are also encouraged to attend conferences outside the hospital in order to continue the education process.
