Monument East welcomes Dr. Ashley Lawton!
Dr. Lawton is Monument’s East’s newest member of the team! She hails from Calgary, Canada where her love of animals (and the outdoors!) started young. She spent her childhood on her family’s farm and her summers exploring the Canadian Rockies.
After graduating from high school, she headed east to the Maritimes where she earned an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Acadia University.
She headed further east to attend the University of Glasgow’s School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland. In her early years of vet school, she spent springs lambing in the Scottish Highlands and summers travelling and volunteering in Europe and Asia. In 2013, she completed her veterinary training and was awarded the Governors' and Mitchell of Cranstonhill Prize by the school’s Dean of Veterinary Medicine.
Ready for the sun, she happily accepted a rotating internship in Tucson, Arizona to further her veterinary training. Dr. Lawton spent one year working alongside specialists in oncology, surgery, internal medicine, critical care, dermatology and ophthalmology. There, she developed a special interest in emergency and critical care and stayed on with their emergency service. But it was the interaction with pet owners and the problem-solving opportunities that cropped up that drew Dr. Lawton to general practice.
She and her husband, also a practicing veterinarian, stay busy with their very full house – two daughters (4 and 2), twin boys (1), a sweet Blue Heeler, Blue, and somewhat-less-sweet Chihuahua, Loni. Dr. Lawton and her crew are enjoying continuing getting to know Tucson and being involved in the local community. They love spending time in the Sonoran desert and cheering on University of Arizona athletics – Go Cats!
