SERVICES INCLUED:
Behavior problems in pets are very common and can lead to frustration, a weakening of the human-animal bond, and even a loss in quality of life for both you and your pet. Studies have shown that behavior problems represent the most common cause for the relinquishment of pets to animal shelters. The Monument East Veterinary Hospital is committed to helping keep pets in their homes, strengthening the bond you have with your pet, and maximizing your pet's quality of life.
Some of the most common behavioral problems that we treat through the Monument East Behavior Service include:
Monument East Veterinary Hospital understands that the loss of a pet is a deeply painful and emotional experience. The death of a beloved companion animal may leave you feeling a variety of emotions, such as sadness, loneliness, anger or guilt. While some pet owners are fortunate to have friends and family who understand these emotions, others may not have the emotional support they need.
After a loss, you may experience feelings of grief such as denial, anger, depression or guilt The effects are often felt emotionally, physically, and spiritually. This is all part of the normal grief process.
Well-meaning friends and family sometimes do not understand the loss that a pet owner feels after losing a pet. Sometimes, they can inadvertently minimize feelings of loss, leaving you to feel even more alone.
Hiding your feelings of grief does not help them go away. Instead, talking about these feelings with other pet owners who have experienced the loss of their beloved pets can be therapeutic.
Remembering the good times and special memories of your pet is an important part of the grieving process.
You and your companion animal have shared a precious bond. Your grief is genuine and you deserve to feel supported and cared about.
During this most vulnerable of times, you need to treat yourself with the same loving kindness that you bestowed upon your pet.
Veterinary cardiologists specialize in diseases affecting an animal’s heart and lungs. We have experience in treating acquired and congenital heart disease as well as pericardial disease.
Congenital refers to developmental changes in the heart that are typically present in patients since birth. The severity of these diseases are evaluated using echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, and angiography. Several diseases, such as pulmonic stenosis and patent ductus arteriosus, may be cured or have their severity greatly reduced, with surgery.
Pericardial refers to changes in the sac, or pericardium, that surrounds the heart. The most common type is the formation of fluid in the pericardium. We are unique in our ability to perform many procedures using both non-invasive and invasive techniques, which helps patients avoid large incisions and long recovery times.

Our Critical Care service uses technology and advanced skills to monitor, diagnose, and treat animals with acute or chronic illness. The most severe and life-threatening emergencies are managed in our critical care unit, and the emergency and critical care veterinarians work closely with other specialists to provide the best patient care and treatment. Staff members realize that each pet is accompanied by a concerned owner, and they understand the fears that owners experience when a beloved pet is in critical condition.
This service is fully staffed and available during regular business hours, 6 days a week. The veterinary team is trained to assess and treat pets that become ill and how to handle life-threatening emergencies. Some common emergencies include hit by a car, falling from heights, profuse vomiting or diarrhea, difficulty breathing, seizures, and toxin ingestion. While some patients can be treated and released the same day, others must be admitted for further stabilization. Patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries are admitted to our referral critical care unit for close monitoring and advanced life support measures.
The unit is staffed by veterinarians and certified technicians with advanced training in emergency and critical care. They provide excellent care for each patient and utilize a variety of advanced monitoring and diagnostic tools:

Please remember to bring:
A complete and balanced diet is one of the fundamental keys to optimizing health and longevity in companion animals. Feeding a healthy diet is a common goal among pet owners and veterinarians but can be difficult to attain for animals with special needs. Pets that require nutritional support during critical illness or that have chronic diseases are at a higher risk of malnutrition, which can lead to undesired complications and a shortened lifespan. The Monument East Veterinary Hospital Clinical Nutrition Department is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for dogs and cats.
Services offered by the Monument East Veterinary Hospital include:
Studies have shown that dogs that maintain a lean body weight live longer, healthier lives. Weight loss plans tailored to the individual pet will help maintain lean muscle mass and help minimize negative behaviors for both dogs and cats.
Whether a home-prepared diet is required for management of chronic diseases or is desired for a healthy dog or cat, the staff can give a comprehensive evaluation of the current diet and/or formulate a complete and balanced home-prepared diet to meet the individual animal’s metabolic needs.
Nutritional modifications and strategies for prevention and management of specific diseases can be discussed during in-person appointments with owners.
Recommendations for nutritional support of patients with assisted feeding devices. This may be the selection of commercially-available therapeutic diet to use through an enteral feeding.
Manifestations of nutritionally related diseases can mimic other medical conditions and we recommend a thorough physical examination and evaluation by the patient’s primary care veterinarian.
